Damascus asks US to end illegitimate presence on Syrian soil

Syria’s Foreign Ministry bulling in Damascus

Syria has strongly condemned the recent act of aggression by US occupation forces, which targeted several areas in the country’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr, causing casualties.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the US considers itself the world's policeman under pretexts that violate both international law and international humanitarian law.

It stressed that Washington must end its illegitimate presence on Syrian soil and end its open support and funding of terrorist organizations like Daesh.

Calling for global action to counter US acts of aggression in West Asia, Syria vowed to bring the aggressors to justice in line with international law.

“Syria calls on world countries which struggle for their sovereignty, freedom and independence to condemn that aggression and reject it and demand the US to end its illegal presence and its terrorist military operations in the region,” the statement said.

A Syrian military source said US strikes hit several villages, towns and military sites.

They killed 7 soldiers and one civilian while injuring 19 soldiers and 13 civilians.

The strikes also caused huge material damage to public and private properties.

The United States conducts airstrikes in Syria under the pretext of fighting terrorism. Damascus has written numerous letters addressed to the United Nations, calling on the world body to end the US attacks and its military presence in the Arab country.

The Syrian government has always said that Israel and its Western and regional allies have been supporting Takfiri terrorist groups to continue to wreak havoc nationwide since March 2011, when the country fell into the grip of foreign-backed militancy.

The US military has stationed forces and equipment in northeastern Syria. The Pentagon claims the deployment is aimed at preventing the oilfields in the area from falling into the hands of Daesh terrorists.

But Damascus says the deployment is meant to plunder the rich resources of Syria.
