Chilean protesters demand Gaza ceasefire, end to Israeli siege

Thousands of Chileans took to the streets of Santiago on Sunday demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an end to the Israeli regime's genocide and siege of the Palestinian territory.

Footage from the scene showed protesters carrying banners with messages such as "Free Palestine"‌ and "It's not self-defense, it's a genocide," as they shouted slogans, urging their government to break ties with Israel.

"Well, here we are, the family is gathered here to stand up, to raise our voices for this genocide that everyone is silent about. For the infanticide, genocide and holocaust that the Palestinian people are suffering," one protester told Reuters.

"People are demonstrating against what is happening in Palestine, in Gaza, [and] in the West Bank. The siege, the genocide, the slaughter left and right, the whole world seems blind to it and we have to demonstrate in one way or another," another demonstrator said.

Israel launched its the war of genocide on Gaza on October 7, 2023 after the territory's resistance movements waged Operation al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

Since the start of its aggression, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 31,645 Palestinians and injured 73,676 others.

The regime has also imposed a complete siege on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, medicine and water to more than two million Palestinians living there.
