Russia’s foreign intelligence service, known as SVR, has revealed that the United States is trying to interfere in the upcoming presidential election.

“According to information received by the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, the administration of J. Biden is setting a task for American NGOs to achieve a decrease in turnout,” Russian media quoted the SVR as saying in a statement.

It said leading American IT specialists had been recruited by the government and “planned to carry out cyber attacks on the remote electronic voting system, which will make it impossible to count the votes of a significant proportion of Russian voters.”

There has been no response by the White House media service to the SVR’s announcement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that any attempt by the administration of President Joe Biden to meddle in the election would be considered an act of aggression.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the US-led efforts to sway the Russian elections were part of Washington’s “vicious practices” of meddling in the domestic affairs of other nations.

Last week, the Kremlin dismissed claims that Moscow had interfered in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections in the United States.

The “Mueller” special counsel investigation had concluded that Russian interference in the 2016 election did occur “in sweeping and systematic fashion” and “violated US criminal law.”

In the meantime, US media have accused Russia of spreading disinformation ahead of the election, using fake online accounts and bots to damage the popularity of the Democratic President Joe Biden.

According to former US officials and cyber experts cited by US media, the dissemination of attacks on Biden is part of Russia’s continued efforts to undercut US military aid to Ukraine. In this regard, the Republican nominee in the upcoming election, Donald Trump, says he is opposed to the US military assistance.

Putin, however, says he finds Biden preferable as the next US president compared to Trump. After he exited the Oval office in 2021, the Kremlin complained that during his tenure Trump had created exceptional havoc in world politics and violated all possible rules.
