Exclusive: ‘I’ve arrived with fresh mandate to stop slaughter in Gaza’: George Galloway

George Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain

British politician George Galloway who has registered a landslide victory in a parliamentary by-election advocating for Gaza said he has “arrived with a fresh mandate to stop the slaughter in Gaza.”

Galloway, who represents the Workers Party of Britain, on Thursday claimed a stunning victory in the Rochdale by-election.

“The first thing I am going to do on Wednesday – Prime Minister’s Questions – is I’m going to tell the prime minister that I have arrived with a fresh mandate, the only member of the House to do so, with the fresh mandate to stop the slaughter in Gaza,” Galloway said in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Friday.

“A ceasefire is necessary but not sufficient. A temporary pause, a humanitarian pause, or a simple ceasefire is not enough. We need to an end to the occupation. We need the total withdrawal of the siege of Gaza,” he stated.

“And we need the recognition of the Palestinian right to self-determination enshrined in international law, enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions, enshrined in Oslo agreements, all ignored. And the Oslo agreement is now dead and buried. It’s been ignored for so long,” Galloway continued.

“Some 700 thousand illegal settlers are now living on the parts of Palestine that were supposed to be the Palestine state,” he noted.

“Some 30 years since the Oslo agreement, it’s time to raise the flag of one state. Call it the Holy Land in which Jews, Muslims, and Christians live together as equal citizens before the law," he observed.

"These are kind of agreements I’ll be making in the Parliament,” he stated.

Israel began waging the onslaught against Gaza on October 7, following al-Aqsa Storm, a surprise operation staged by the coastal sliver’s resistance groups against the occupied territories.

At least 30,228 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and 71,377 others injured in the relentless Israeli aggression.

No earlier than on Thursday, the United Nations human rights chief expressed dismay concerning the brutality with which the Israeli regime was waging the war.

"There appear to be no bounds to -- no words to capture -- the horrors that are unfolding before our eyes in Gaza," Volker Turk told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
