Palestinian youth killed by Israeli forces in West Bank, third in a single day

This photo, released by Palestinian Wafa news agency, shows Palestinian youth Anas Jameel Dwaikat, who was killed by Israeli forces near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, on Sunday, February 18, 2024.

Israeli forces have gunned down another Palestinian man near the West Bank city of Nablus, increasing the number of Palestinians killed by the regime's forces across the occupied territory in a single day to three.

The victim was critically injured by Israeli troops near the Beit Furik checkpoint east of Nablus on Sunday, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency reported, citing security sources.

The young man succumbed to his serious injuries shortly after the shooting, Wafa said, adding that his body was held by the occupying regime's forces for several hours.

The slain Palestinian has been identified as Anas Jameel Dwaikat, who came from the village of Rujeib.

According to eyewitnesses, Dwaikat was seriously injured after Israeli forces opened fire on a vehicle near the checkpoint claiming that its driver was involved in a shooting attack against them.

The new fatality came after earlier in the day, Israeli forces fatally shot two Palestinian youths and injured at least four others during a violent raid on the city of Tulkarm and its refugee camp in northern West Bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the duo as 36-year-old Muhammad Ahmad Fayez al-Awfi and 19-year-old Nabil Atta Muhammad Amer.

The regime has escalated its acts of aggression against Palestinians across the West Bank since early October 2023, when it began a genocidal war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Nearly 400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied territory since then.

On the other hand, the aggression against Gaza has so far claimed the lives of nearly 29,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, leaving more than 68,800 others wounded.

The regime launched its onslaught on Gaza following Operation al-Aqsa Storm by the territory's resistance movements on October 7, 2023.
