Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and other Gaza-based groups against Israel revived the issue of Palestine as the Muslim world’s “foremost and principal matter of concern.”
Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks during a meeting with Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad movement Ziyad al-Nakhalah, member of Hamas’ politburo Osama Hamdan, and deputy secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Jamil Mazhar, in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Saturday.
“Among the major outcomes of Operation Al-Aqsa Storm was the revival of the issue of Palestine as the foremost and principal issue of the Muslim world, and the international community. The resistance front could also consolidate its position and indisputable role both in the Palestinian territories and the international arena,” the top Iranian diplomat said.
He demanded an immediate cessation of Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The Iranian minister underscored the need for a unified stance among the Palestinian factions to manage proposed political initiatives aimed at the settlement of the Gaza crisis, distribution of humanitarian aid among the civilian population in the territory, and exchange of Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners.
Amir-Abdollahian also pointed to his consultations with various foreign officials and international organizations on the resolution of the Gaza conflict. He said the Palestinian people are the only ones entitled to seal the fate of Palestine.
Regional and international actors, the Iranian minister said, should refrain from imposing their wills upon the Palestinian nation and respect Palestine’s right to self-determination.
For their part, the Palestinian resistance leaders elaborated on ground battles in Gaza, and pointed to the certain signs of victory for the Palestinian nation as a result of their heroic steadfastness and the resolve of resistance fighters.
The leaders said the situation is in favor of resistance as the regime has failed to achieve any of its declared objectives in Gaza under mounting internal and international pressure.
They also congratulated Iran on the 45th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and praised the Iranian leadership, government and nation for supporting the Palestinians.
Israel began the brutal campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, after it was caught off-guard by Operation al-Aqsa Storm, which was in retaliation for the regime’s incessant crimes against the Palestinians.
Since the start of the aggression, Israel has killed more than 28,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The campaign has devastated Gaza, destroyed hospitals and displaced half of its population of 2.4 million.
Israel has also imposed a “complete siege” on Gaza, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the Palestinians living there.
