US Israeli Gaza genocide
Over a dozen Palestinians, including five children, are the latest victims of Israel’s brutal onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip, as the regime’s genocide enters its 125th day. Palestinian media say the victims were killed by Israeli strikes on two houses west of the city of Rafah in southernmost Gaza. The regime’s forces have intensified their attacks on Rafah in preparation for a ground invasion of the city. This is where around 1.4 million displaced Gazans have taken shelter. The UN has issued a stern warning against Israel’s plan to attack Rafah, saying it will lead to a large-scale loss of civilian lives.
Gaza ceasefire talks
A senior Hamas official says the Israeli prime minister’s insistence on continuing the onslaught against Gaza shows his goal is genocide against Palestinians. Osama Hamdan told a news conference in Beirut that Hamas will do its best to protect Palestinians, both through resistance and political efforts to stop the aggression. Separately, another Hamas official, Sami Abu Zuhri, said the latest remarks by Netanyahu prove that he intends to pursue conflict in the region. He said the movement is prepared to deal with all possible options. Their remarks came after Netanyahu dismissed a proposal by Hamas for ceasefire in Gaza, claiming that Israel was only several months from victory. Netanyahu added that Israeli forces have been ordered to attack Rafah, a city in southernmost Gaza, where more than one million Palestinians have sought refuge.
US attacks in Iraq
The United States has carried out another drone strike in the Iraqi capital, killing at least three people, including a commander of Kata'ib Hezbollah resistance group. The group said Abu Baqr al-Saadi was killed in the strike along with two other senior members. US military officials have confirmed the drone strike in Baghdad, saying the slain commander was responsible for operations against American forces. The attack drew instant reactions from Palestinian resistance movements. Hamas said the strike was in violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. The Mujahideen Movement, for its part, strongly condemned the attack. It said the administration of US President Joe Biden insists on igniting the region by continuing its unbridled support for Zionist criminals. The Secretary-General of Katai’b Hezbollah, Iraq’s Al-Nujaba Movement, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement have strongly condemned the attack in separate statements.
