At least five people were killed and several others injured when Israeli military aircraft carried out a series of airstrikes in Syria’s western province of Homs.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, citing local sources, reported that “five people were killed, including three civilians – a woman, a child, and a man – and seven others were injured in Israeli strikes on a building in the Hamra neighborhood of Homs city” on Wednesday.

The identities of the two non-civilian casualties were unknown, the British-based war monitor said.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted an unnamed military source as saying “the Israeli enemy perpetrated an air aggression at around 00:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday (2130 GMT Tuesday), and fired missiles from the direction of the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli at some targets in the city of Homs and its outskirts.”

The source added that Syrian air defenses intercepted and downed some of the missiles, while the rest caused material losses to public and private properties in the targeted areas.

Syria’s Defense Ministry reported that the Israeli air strikes against a number of sites in the city of Homs and its countryside left an unspecified number of civilians dead and injured.

Syrian state television also broadcast footage of rescuers rummaging through the rubble of what appeared to be a collapsed building and carrying someone on a stretcher.

The upsurge in Israel’s acts of aggression against Syria comes following the Tel Aviv regime’s bloody onslaught against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Israel waged the bloody war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories in retaliation for the Tel Aviv regime’s incessant crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Since the start of the aggression, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 27,585 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the territory.

The Tel Aviv regime also frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.
