US actress and activist Cynthia Nixon, joined by state legislators and activists, launches a hunger strike calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, in front of the White House in Washington, DC.
"Certainly many people are dying from bombs, but so many people in Gaza are on the precipice of starvation. That's why we are having a hunger strike, to reflect the horror of that," says Nixon.
The United States welcomed an agreement Monday to extend a truce between Israel and Hamas by two days, saying it was hopeful the humanitarian pause would continue for longer still.
