Iran's ambassador to Belgium has condemned the United States and the European Union over their double-standard approach to the Israeli regime's ongoing war of genocide against the besieged Gaza Strip.

Gholamhossein Dehqani made the remarks on Monday while addressing a press conference, along with ambassadors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)'s member states, in the Belgian capital Brussels, which is also seat of the EU.

"In the past 30 days, we have witnessed the application of double standards by the European Union, the United States, and many European countries towards the criminal acts committed by Israel in Gaza," he said.

"Despite the global outcry and demands for a ceasefire from people in the streets, from the US to Europe to Australia, Western decision-makers unfortunately do not heed the people's wishes," the Iranian envoy added.

Israel has killed over 11,200 Palestinians, including more than 8,000 women and children, in Gaza since October 7, when it launched its war of aggression in response to an operation carried out inside the occupied territories by the Gaza-based resistance groups.

Since then, hundreds of thousands have joined rallies across the US and Europe, trying to have their respective governments press the Israeli regime into ceasing its aggression against the besieged Palestinian territory.

Western governments, led by the United States, have, however, stopped short of drawing any red lines for the regime, which has vowed to wage a "long" war against Gaza. Tel Aviv's allies have also refused to throw their weight behind the United Nations Security Council resolutions that called for a ceasefire.

While strongly criticizing the US' positions on Israel's crimes in Gaza, the Iranian envoy said, "The United States has displayed bias to such an extent that even some of its regional allies do not view it as qualified for mediation."

Dehqani emphasized that the European Union consistently portrays itself as a defender of human rights, yet it has remained silent on the Palestinian casualties in Gaza and, by refusing to condemn Israel's crimes, has effectively supported the regime's atrocities against Palestinians.

The envoy urged the European Union to change its position and take practical measures to halt Israel's attacks, stressing that Tel Aviv would not cease its genocide against Palestinian people in Gaza until it faces genuine international pressure and is held accountable for its crimes.

The Iranian ambassador also touched on the recent statement by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which condemned Israel's attacks, stressing that "despite the clear stance of the OIC, practical measures are needed in the current crisis to compel the criminal regime to halt the bloodshed."
