An international organization of Muslim scholars has called on Islamic countries to undertake their duties to stop the “egregious” Israeli war against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip and prevent a total destruction of the territory.
The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), in a fatwa (Islamic decree) released on Tuesday evening and read out by its Secretary General Ali al-Qaradaghi, asked statesmen in Islamic countries to take on their responsibilities in the face of the Israeli aggression against Gaza, adopt immediate actions at this critical juncture, fully support Palestinians, and avoid wholesale destruction of Gaza and obliteration of its population.
The fatwa added that all Muslims are religiously, politically, legally and ethically duty-bound to assert their solidarity with Palestinians, emphasizing that Islamic states and their armed forces are expected to rapidly and effectively halt the Tel Aviv regime’s aggression.
It also stressed the need for collaboration and coordination among Arab and Muslim nations, particularly the four neighboring countries of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, to work out an international equation and protect Palestinians against Israeli oppression.
The IUMS, which is headquartered in Qatar, reiterated the call for struggle against Israel and censured the international community’s silence and inaction towards Israel’s shameless atrocities against the people of Gaza.
The union finally described the dispatch of humanitarian aid to Palestine as a religious duty and primary responsibility of Muslims and the international community.
Israel waged the war on Gaza after the territory’s resistance movements carried out a surprise attack against the occupying entity, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm, in response to unrelenting Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, the death toll from indiscriminate Israeli bombardments has surpassed 10,300 people, including over 6,500 children and women.
