The Kremlin has rejected allegations that North Korea is providing Russia with weapon supplies after the US released images purportedly showing arms shipments from Pyongyang.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that there was "no proof" North Korea was sending supplies of weapons to Russia.
“They report this all the time, without providing any proof,” Peskov told Russian news agencies when asked about the reported arms shipments.
Peskov said that Russia would continue to build its relations with North Korea.
“This is our sovereign right and we do not think that anyone has the right to meddle in this,” he added.
His remarks came after the White House on Friday said North Korea recently provided Russia with over 1,000 containers of military equipment and munitions in recent weeks for use in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea in September; he emphasized that although no weapon agreements had been signed however he saw “possibilities” for military cooperation in the future.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to arrive in North Korea on Wednesday for a two-day visit. Details of the trip remain unclear.
The US says it will continue to enforce sanctions, expose the alleged arms deals, and make the case at the United Nations that the actions “violate Security Council resolutions.”
North Korea has backed Russia over the war in Ukraine, insisting that the “hegemonic policy” of the US-led NATO military alliance of Western governments forced Moscow to take military action to protect its national security interests.
