Asian Games: Iran wins gold in Hangzhou 2022 men’s volleyball competition

Iran beats China to be crowned champion of volleyball competitions at the 19th Asian Games in China.

Iran has snatched its first gold medal of the ongoing Asian Games being held in Hangzhou, China, by winning the volleyball competition of the tournament.

Iran beat China 3-1 in the final match of the volleyball competitions on Tuesday to be crowned champion in the Games.

Led by Behrouz Atayi, the Iranian team roster in the match against China featured Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi, Amin Esmaeilnejad, Shahrouz Homayounfar Manesh, Mohammad Taher Vadi, Amir Hossein Esfandiar and Mohammad Reza Hazratpour.

Iran won the second, third and fourth sets of the game against China with respective scores of 25-14, 25-22, 26-24, after losing the first set 25-19.

It is the third time Iran wins the volleyball competitions of the Asian Games, with previous championships taking place in 2014 and 2018. The Iranians also won three silver medals in the competitions in 1958, 2002 and 2010 and a bronze medal in 1966.

Japan came third in this year’s volleyball competitions after beating Qatar 3-1 on Tuesday.

The 19th Asia Games started in Hangzhou, in eastern China, on September 23 and will wrap up on October 8.

The gold medal in volleyball allowed Iran to move up to the 10th place in the Games’ ranking on Tuesday. Iranian athletes had already grabbed four silver and five gold medals in the Games.
