A Death Story: One Year Later

It's Tuesday, September 13, 2022. The law enforcement forces in the Iranian capital, Tehran, are doing their job as usual. A handful of people are taken to a police station for breaking Islamic dress codes. They're supposed to take part in a class to get more familiar with Islamic teachings.

In the class, one of these people, Mahsa Amini, feels dizzy, and then falls on the ground. She's rushed to the hospital, goes into a coma, and passes away a few days later on September 16.

The news of her death spreads like wildfire. People here and there take to the streets. Soon, initial protests turn into riots and vandalism. Rioters call for radical changes.

And before long, foreign media outlets call them the pioneers of a new revolution in the country; their slogan, “Woman, Life, Freedom”!

All these happen even before the initial results of the forensic tests come out.
