Taiwan conducted a drill on nuclear emergencies on Wednesday, where it simulated scenarios inspired by drone attacks and natural disasters.
The annual drill organized by the Taiwan Atomic Energy Council involved the evacuation of local residents, detection of radiation levels with manned and unmanned vehicles, as well as decontamination of nuclear wastewater.
A local resident who had concerns about the Ukraine crisis and had felt a heightened sense of threat in Taiwan said she felt more at ease after witnessing the drills held in New Taipei City.
Organizers said one of the key differences in this year's exercise is the upgrading of the scenario's severity level from peacetime to wartime, in an effort to be better prepared, amid the war in Ukraine.
