Israel Nablus raid
Israeli forces have wounded scores of Palestinians during a raid on the town of Beita in the West Bank city of Nablus. According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, 109 Palestinians have been injured during the clashes between Palestinians and Israeli troops. The raid came as the regime’s forces are searching for a suspect in the killing of two Israelis on Saturday. No group has claimed responsibility for the operation. But Palestinian resistance movements, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad have both hailed the operation as a natural response to Israel’s atrocities. Tensions are high in the occupied West Bank with Israeli forces carrying out deadly raids on Palestinian towns. Palestinians have also carried out retaliatory operations.
Ukraine-Russia drone strike
Ukraine is stepping up its drone strikes on Russian territory, targeting the western city of Kursk and the capital, Moscow. Local Russian officials said five people were slightly injured after a drone hit a train station in Kursk. Russia also said its air defenses jammed a Ukrainian drone flying toward Moscow. The Russian Defense Ministry said the drone crashed and left no casualties. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned last month that war was coming to Russia and that its symbolic centers and military bases were targets. The Kremlin says the escalated drone strikes have been mostly unsuccessful and look like “acts of desperation.” It says the attacks are motivated by Ukraine’s failure to breach Russian lines during its counteroffensive to regain lost territory.
Canada wildfire
Tens of thousands of residents of western Canada are under orders to evacuate their homes as raging wildfires encroach on populated areas. The devastating fires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories are just the latest in a summer of dramatic wildfires across the country. Northwest Territories’ capital Yellowknife has become a ghost town as thousands have fled the city. Western Canada has been hit with a heat wave that is fueling hundreds of out-of-control wildfires. Blazes have engulfed parts of nearly all 13 Canadian provinces and territories this year, forcing home evacuations and disrupting oil and gas production.
