Double gold delight for Iranian table tennis players at WTT event in Tunis

Iran's young table tennis players bagged two gold medals at the WTT Youth Contender Tunis 2023 on Saturday after putting up an impressive show against opponents. 

Benyamin Faraji ended his campaign in U15 Boys Singles of the event held at Salle Omnisport de Radès indoor arena in Radès with a convincing win over Wassim Essid of the host nation.

Faraji prevailed over the local boy with a scoreline of 3-0 (14-12, 13-11 and 11-9) in the finals.

The young Iranian player defeated his English opponent Rohan Dani 3-2 (7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-13, 11-5) in the semifinals to book a berth in the title clash.

Amirmahdi Keshavarzi also routed his Slovakian rival Samuel Arpas 3-1 (11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11) in the finals of U19 Boys Singles to snatch second gold for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Earlier in the tournament, Faraji lost to Essid from Tunisia 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 7-11) in the final match of the U17 Boys Singles series, and walked away with a silver medal.

He had defeated Belgian player Tom Closset 3-2 and Arpas from Slovakia 3-2 en route to the final encounter.

The WTT Youth Contender Tunis 2023 opened in Radès, Tunisia, on August 9, and wrapped up on August 12.
