Russia’s Defense Ministry has reported that the country's air defenses shot down 20 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Crimea.

Air defense forces intercepted an attempted “terrorist attack” by Ukraine in the early hours of Saturday over Crimea, the Defense Ministry wrote on Telegram.

The ministry said 14 UAVs were shot down, while six others were incapacitated by means of electronic warfare.

“There were no casualties or damage as a result of the thwarted terrorist attack,” the ministry added.

The destroyed drones had targeted civilian infrastructure on the Crimean peninsula, it further added.

In the meantime, Ukraine has increased the number of drone and missile strikes against targets in Russia in the past weeks as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently hinted at a change in Kiev’s failed military tactics.

In early June, and after a long delay, Ukraine launched a hyped counteroffensive which has till now been largely unsuccessful.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said  Kiev’s increased attacks on civilian infrastructure are meant to distract from its faltering offensive, which has been going on for more than two months but has failed to gain any ground.

Even Ukraine's main backers in Washington have raised strong doubts regarding Kiev’s chances of gaining ground in the counteroffensive against Russia.

Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville (AL) told US media that all in all the odds are against Kiev in the war with Russia.

Speaking on The Ingraham Angle on Monday, he said, despite the vast military aid, weapons and munitions being pumped into Ukraine to fight the West’s proxy war against Moscow, Kiev “can’t win” against Russia because the two aren't in the same league.

Tuberville insisted, "Yes, we’re not getting the point in Washington, DC ... At the end of the day, it’s a junior high team playing a college team. They can’t win.”

He insisted that what the US leadership is attempting to do now is that it is “trying to get everybody’s eye off the real problem,” which is “the Biden administration and the Democrats. They’re a total disaster.”
