Iran US warning
Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, IRGC, has warned of responding in kind to any action or mischief by the US. IRGC spokesman, General Ramezan Sharif says the Islamic Republic has gained significant power and is able to respond proportionately to any US measure. That, after the U-S announced the arrival of thousands of its military personnel in the Red Sea early on Monday. The Spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry has also said Persian Gulf littoral states have the potential to secure waterways and maritime transportation in the region, without any foreign interference. Naser Kan’ani said the security of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman is a priority of Iran and is achievable through regional cooperation. He also dismissed as false the claim that foreign military presence in the region is aimed at ensuring security.
Russia-Ukraine war
Moscow says a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine will be practicable only if Kiev lays down its arms. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on Kiev to stop hostilities and terrorist attacks. She urged Western countries to halt arms supplies to Ukraine. Zakharova also rapped Ukraine's proposed peace plan saying it is aimed at prolonging hostilities. She stressed Ukraine’s neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status must be confirmed. Zakharova made the remarks following peace talks held in Saudi Arabia over the weekend in the absence of Russia. China, India, the United States, Ukraine and representatives from around 40 countries took part in the Jeddah peace conference.
India communal violence
More than 300 Muslim homes and businesses have been bulldozed in India's Haryana state following deadly communal clashes last week. Over 150 Muslims have also been arrested by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hundreds of men have fled their homes in fear of imprisonment. Police said a Muslim shrine in the Gurugram district was set on fire on Monday morning. Anti-Muslim violence has been spreading since clashes took place in Haryana that left at least 7 people dead. The violence erupted when right-wing Hindu outfit, VHP, was holding a religious procession in Muslim-dominated areas reportedly chanting hateful slogans. They went on rampage after the procession was allegedly pelted with rocks.
