Crimes of Israel
Israeli forces have shot dead three more Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Israeli police said the three were from the Jenin refugee camp, claiming that they were planning an attack. Israeli forces launch raids in the West Bank almost on a daily basis. The attacks often lead to Palestinian casualties. So far this year, Israeli forces have killed over 200 Palestinians. The regime's crimes and occupation have prompted Palestinian retaliatory attacks against Israeli targets.
Pakistan train tragedy
A passenger train has derailed in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, killing at least 30 people and injuring 80. Eight train cars went off the tracks near the town of Nawabshah roughly 300 kilometers from the country's largest city of Karachi. At least one-thousand passengers were aboard the train. Wounded passengers have been moved to nearby hospitals while rescue teams are still trying to free people from the twisted wreckage. The railway minister has raised the possibility of a mechanical fault but has not ruled out sabotage. Pakistan has seen a string of deadly train accidents over the past years. In June 2021, two trains collided in Sindh, killing at least 65 people and injuring about 150 others. Between 2013 and 2019, around 150 people died in such incidents.
US gun violence
At least three people have been killed in a mass shooting in southeast Washington, DC, in the United States. The victims include two men and one woman. At least two people were also wounded. The area has been sealed off due to police activity. Meanwhile, local authorities have called for more crime prevention resources. The US has been witnessing a major escalation in gun violence during the past months. Figures show there are 120 firearms per 100 residents in the US, which far surpasses other countries. Over the past years, there have been growing calls for stricter legislation on gun control, and curtailing access to weapons in the country. But the calls have met stiff opposition from powerful gun lobbies including the National Rifle Association.
