Iran’s rowing medal drought snapped at FISU World University Games

Iranian rower Amir Hossein Mahmoudpour won a silver medal at the 2023 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games in China, putting an end to the country’s years-long medal drought at the international event.

The Iranian sportsman took part in the finals of men’s lightweight single sculls competitions in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu on Sunday and recorded 7 minutes and 13 seconds to claim second place on the podium and receive the silver medal.

He fought for the honor against contestants from Austria, China, Germany, the Netherlands and Turkey.

The Turkish athlete snatched the gold medal, while the Chinese rower landed in the third slot and pocketed the bronze.

The 2023 FISU World University Games opened in Chengdu, China, on July 28 and will close on August 8.

Thousands of male and female athletes from 113 countries are reportedly taking part in the international tournament.
