An Iranian official says President Ebrahim Raeisi has discussed with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said ways to promote multilateral cooperation.
In a Tuesday post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, said Sultan Hiatham and Raeisi had a telephone conversation, during which the latter appreciated Oman’s goodwill in advancing agreements.
The two sides also exchanged views on ways to promote multilateral cooperation, he added.

Iran and Oman enjoy close diplomatic and economic ties due to their historical, cultural and religious commonalities.
Oman has long been an interlocutor in interactions between the West and Iran. The country has mediated the release of several foreign citizens and dual nationals. It has also played a mediating role between Tehran and the West in the build-up to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Also, the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has tripled over the past two years and reached $2 billion.
Late in May, Sultan Haitham paid an official visit to Tehran, where Iranian and Omani delegations signed documents to improve cooperation in the economy, energy and investment fields as well as free zones.
The visit came one year after Raeisi’s key trip to Muscat at the head of a high-ranking delegation.
