Iran defense program
Iran has armed its naval forces with a new domestically-made long-range cruise missile system. Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani said that the missile has unique precision-strike and destruction capabilities. According to the minister, the projectile can fly at low altitudes and is able to evade radar and missile defense systems. He said the launcher can also fire multiple missiles at a short interval. The Abu Mahdi missile system was first unveiled in 2020. Iran has developed a diverse arsenal of missiles and missile systems over the past years. The country says the weapons are to maintain deterrence and send a message of peace to regional countries.
Palestinians killed
Violence mounts in the occupied West Bank where more Palestinians fall victim to growing Israeli aggression. Three Palestinians were shot dead a few hours ago in the city of Nablus. The Israeli military accused them of firing at troops. Palestinians have confirmed the deaths and declared a day of public mourning. The resistance movement, Hamas, has called the deaths another crime by the Israeli regime, saying that the Palestinian youths will continue their resistance. The regime has intensified its deadly crackdown against Palestinians in the occupied territories this year, killing at least 200.
UK strike
Thousands of radiographers in England are walking out of their jobs in protest at the current pay and working conditions. The two-day strike involves 37 trusts associated with the UK’s National Health Service. The industrial action is expected to bring disruptions to medical imaging services provided for patients. However, the union representing radiographers says patients will be given "life and limb emergency cover". The union says alarming numbers of radiographers are quitting the profession because they are dissatisfied with low wages and long working hours. The government has offered a pay rise of 5%. But radiographers reject the offer. A similar strike was also staged last week in England by senior hospital doctors. In recent months, Britain has experienced walkouts by workers across multiple sectors.
