The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) has launched large-scale military drills in the central province of Isfahan with the participation of a whole range of military aircraft, including drones.

The 11th edition of the drills, code-named Devotees of Velayat Sanctuary, kicked off in Anarak District of Na’een County on Sunday.

The Air Force units are to conduct a broad range of operations in the war game, such as reconnaissance and aerial imaging, striking air and ground targets as well as electronic warfare.

Brigadier General Alireza Rudbari, the speaker of the drills, said the main stage of the military exercise includes drone combat operations, reconnaissance and electronic warfare by the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the IRIAF.

“Combat, reconnaissance and jammer drones of Kaman-12, Karrar, Mohajer 6 and Arash — equipped with various warheads and carrying different types of electronic warfare equipment and optimized bombs — destroy mock enemy targets,” Rudbari said.

Rudbari underlined that young talented Iranian personnel, who have been trained and educated inside the country by native instructors, will use 92 types of interceptor fighters, bombers and drones during the maneuvers.

The Iranian military commander said the IRIAF’s drones will effectively display a bold presence in the current drills.

Iranian military forces hold routine exercises according to a detailed schedule in various parts of the country in order to test their weaponry and equipment and evaluate their combat preparedness.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.
