IRGC chief calls for national cooperation to counter enemy’s hybrid war

Major General Hossein Salami, chief commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)

The chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says Iran’s enemies have waged a full-scale hybrid war against the country, which can only be countered through the participation and cooperation of the entire nation.

Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony in Tehran on Monday as he pointed to various types of warfare the West and certain European governments have over the years waged against the Islamic Republic.

“The invasion that the enemy has launched against us has a completely global aspect; the enemy has waged war against the Iranian nation by using all it has in power, including media, communication, political, economic, intelligence and psychological tools, and has orchestrated hybrid warfare against the Iranian nation,” Salami said.

“The hybrid warfare against the Iranian nation is a full-scale war as it encompasses all the features of the past wars in one compact form,” he added.

Underlining that the Islamic Republic has overcome difficult problems and hardships with the help of people over the years, the IRGC’s chief commander said, “Success in [repelling] the new war is possible with the participation, cooperation and presence of all people.”

Back in February, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Iran’s Army chief, said that the enemy resorted to hybrid war against the Islamic establishment after it was dealt heavy blows by the Iranian nation and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

“By adopting different plots and strategies in recent years, the enemy has been trying to block the path of the Islamic Revolution and deal a blow to the Islamic Republic,” Mousavi said.

“However, with people’s resistance and the Leader’s wise leadership, the enemy’s plots have failed one after another. Therefore, relying on psychological and media operations, the enemy has organized an extensive hybrid war against the [Iranian] nation and the Islamic establishment.”

Iran’s Army chief also described the Islamic Revolution as “a major global phenomenon in the final decades of the 20th century” with wide-ranging regional and international effects.
