The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has hailed the heroic sacrifices made by the Syrian nation in defending their independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying that Tehran is confident that Damascus will regain its influential and strategic role in the West Asia region.
“In recent years, Syria has endured numerous Western plots and witnessed the rise of terror outfits. It has lost a large number of its nationals, who sacrificed their blood for the honor and dignity of the homeland, and in defense of its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Nasser Kan’ani told correspondent of Syria’s official news agency SANA in Tehran on Monday.
He added, “The sacrifices made by Syrian people in the face of international terrorism and in confronting the multilateral conspiracies against the security, stability and sovereignty of their country are unrivaled, and deserve to be recorded in history.”
“Nowadays we are witnessing a national unity between the Syrian government and nation, one of the results of which was the restoration of diplomatic ties between Damascus and other Arab countries,” Kan’ani pointed out.
He also expressed Iran’s optimism and confidence that Syria, thanks to its capabilities and political insight, will be able to reconstruct what has been demolished by Takfiri terrorists and regain its influential and strategic role in the region.
Earlier in the day, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi said the global and regional order is shifting in favor of free and independent nations in light of the sincere cooperation between the Islamic Republic and Syria as well as historic resistance that the two Muslim states have shown for years.
Raeisi made the remarks in a congratulatory message addressed to his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad on the occasion of Syria’s Evacuation Day, the national day commemorating the evacuation of the last French soldier at the end of the French mandate of Syria on April 17, 1946 after Syria's proclamation of full independence in 1941.
He also expressed hope that the expansion of relations between Tehran and Damascus in various fields would serve their mutual interests and contribute to the establishment of peace and stability in the region.
