Kashmir marks Imam Ali’s martyrdom with large mourning processions

Mourning processions and religious gatherings marked the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali- the first Shia Imam in the Indian-administered Kashmir.

A large number of fasting Muslims cutting across ideological spectrum participated in the ceremonies, commemorating what they described as one of the saddest days in the Islamic history.

Religious scholars threw light on the illustrious life of Imam Ali and highlighted his selfless contribution for Islam.

The participants described Imam Ali as the everlasting role model for not only Muslims, but for the entire mankind. They said Imam Ali was the epitome of piety and righteousness and an icon of truth and justice, who was martyred in the cause of defending justice.

Born in the sacred sanctuary of the holy Ka'aba, Imam Ali was brought up in the lap of Prophethood Muhammad. Throughout his life spanning 63 years, he promoted human welfare, social justice and equality of mankind and also gave his life for upholding these values.

Mourners have gathered here to pay tribute to Imam Ali on his martyrdom anniversary. The speakers called on Muslims to follow in the footsteps of Imam Ali to ensure peace, stability and promotion of unity among Muslims.
