Israeli military forces have arrested at least five Palestinians during a raid in the northern West Bank city of Jenin and a nearby refugee camp, as tensions remain high across the occupied territories since Israeli troops attacked worshipers in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing local sources and Palestinian security officials, reported that violent confrontations broke out between youths and the Israeli forces in several neighborhoods of Jenin soon after the soldiers broke into the flashpoint city.

The sources added that Israeli forces then fired live rounds, stun grenades and tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd. A young man was injured after he was struck by shrapnel in the foot.

Large groups of Israeli forces stormed neighborhoods in Jenin and the vicinity of the refugee camp and deployed snipers on the rooftops.

Israeli soldiers arrested two brothers after breaking into their family home in the al-Jabriyat neighborhood. They detained a third Palestinian after forcing their way into his home in another area of Jenin.

The occupation forces also stormed a house in the Jenin refugee camp and arrested a man and his son.

Moreover, special forces surrounded a house adjacent to Jenin camp, as explosions were heard in the area.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

Most of the raids have focused on Nablus and Jenin, where Israeli forces have been trying to stifle a growing Palestinian resistance against occupation.

Local and international rights groups have condemned Israel’s excessive use of force and “shoot-to-kill policy” against Palestinians.

Since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, the Israeli regime has imposed strict restrictions on the entry and exit of Palestinians to and from the gates of al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli settlers have also pressed ahead with their frequent incursions and provocative rituals at the holy site.

On Thursday, at least 30 rockets were reportedly launched from southern Lebanon into the Israeli-occupied territories in retaliation against the Israeli aggression against al-Aqsa. Resistance fighters based in Gaza also fired several rockets toward the occupied territories.

Palestinian sources said the regime’s Iron Dome failed to intercept most of the retaliatory rockets. Following the rocket attack, Israeli warplanes hit targets inside Gaza and positions of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in Lebanon.

The Israeli regime has in recent months stepped up its atrocities, killing around 100 Palestinians this year alone.
