Iranians have ended two weeks of New Year holidays referred to as Nowruz, celebrating the ancient tradition of Sizdah Bedar or Nature Day by spending some quality time with their loved ones outdoors. However, this year the annual family picnic required some adjustments as it coincided with the holy month of Ramadan. Gisoo Misha Ahmadi explains:
Picnic… but no picnic … this year Iranians celebrated “Sizdah Bedar” with a twist, as the Holy month of Ramadan started on the third day of the Persian New Year, Iranians who are now also fasting, have had to modify some Nowruz traditions including the annual family picnic on the thirteenth day of the New Year called “Sizdah Bedar” or “Nature Day”: An occasion which marks the end of the New Year holidays and usually falls on April 2nd.
And while some have brought their Iftar with them others have decided to prepare it as they wait for sunset to break their fast.
In the capital Tehran, the municipality has decided to make this “Sizdah Bedar” memorable with entertaining activities.
And this is how Iranians have ended two weeks of Nowruz holidays, a very special Nowruz that coincided with the Holy month of Ramadan.
