Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has hailed deep-rooted relations with Uzbekistan, saying strengthening the policy of convergence with neighboring states is among the important policies of his administration.

“Although the two countries have taken good measures to expand relations, they should make more efforts to improve the level of ties given their mutual capacities,” Raeisi said in a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Bahtiyor Saidov in Tehran on Sunday.

Referring to his recent trip to Uzbekistan and the agreements reached between the two countries in the cultural and economic fields, especially in the commercial, transit and agriculture sectors, the Iranian chief executive urged both sides’ ministers to accelerate the implementation of the deals.

Saidov, for his part, said Tashkent seeks to strengthen its relations with Tehran in all fields given the historical commonalities and deep civilizational and cultural relations between the two sides.

The acting Uzbek foreign minister noted that President Raeisi’s visit to Samarkand opened a new chapter in the history of relations between the two countries.

He emphasized that Uzbekistan will make its utmost efforts to implement the agreements already reached between the two countries.
