An Iranian high-ranking delegation headed by the deputy chairman of the Syrian-Iranian Parliamentary friendship committee Abbas Gulru arrived in Damascus and met with speaker of Syrian Parliament Hamoudeh Sabbagh who thanked Iran for its instant response in assisting Syrians affected by the earthquake. He described the Iranian-Syrian relations as historic, stressing that they both share the same enemy, and the same battle against terror and US hegemony.

Gulru expressed Iran’s condolences to the bereaved Syrians, affirming the Islamic Republic’s readiness to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the Arab country.

Iranian and Syrian members of the parliamentary friendship committee also held talks to underline the importance of boosting economic cooperation between the two Muslim nations, and also activating cooperation agreements in facing the US and Western sanctions.

The delegation also met Syria’s Foreign minister Faisal al-Miqdad. He briefed the Iranian lawmakers on the repercussions of the terrorist war on Syria as well as the unilateral sanctions. He highlighted that those factors weakened Syria’s capability in facing natural disasters such as the recent earthquakes.

The visit aims to reiterate Iran’s support to Syria, and the devastated Syrian People affected by the recent earthquakes. The visit is also an indication of the strong and historic relations, not just between the Iranian and Syrian leaderships, but also the peoples of the two nations.
