The two new homegrown air defense systems of Iran’s Armed Forces have successfully intercepted and destroyed pre-determined targets in the ongoing large-scale military drills in the country’s northwestern, western and central regions.
Iran’s official news agency IRNA said the Majid defense system, developed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force, and the Dezful defense system of the Aerospace Division of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) were utilized in Tuesday’s aerial drills, codenamed Modafean Aseman Velayat 1401 (Guardians of Velayat Sky 1401), and “successfully” intercepted and destroyed cruise missiles launched toward the location of the military exercise.
“In continuation of the main stage of this specialized joint exercise, the short-range and low-altitude Dezful air defense systems of the IRGC Aerospace Division successfully intercepted and destroyed the targets designated by the country’s integrated air defense network in the Modafean Aseman Velayat drills,” said Second Brigadier General Abbas Farajpour, the military drills’ spokesperson.
Farajpour added that offensive drones, which intended to enter the area of the exercise, were spotted, identified and intercepted by radar networks, and then the Majid low-altitude missile system successfully shot them down by firing a missile from the defense system.
The Majid air defense missile system is the first electro-optical missile system with an engagement range of eight kilometers, and cannot be countered given the type of its performance, agility and quick tactical movement after the operation.
The short-range, low-altitude Dezful air defense system is fully mobile, which is designed for effective engagement with all types of aerial targets, including fixed-wing aircraft and manned and unmanned helicopters, cruise missiles, and even bombs and missiles released from aircraft in all weather conditions.
During the joint aerial drills on Tuesday, the Iranian Army’s Khordad-15 and the IRGC's Khordad-3 missile systems, which have been made by Iranian experts and scientists, successfully destroyed the targets.
The two missile systems carried out tactical action against hostile targets and successfully downed them by the integrated air defense network of the country in real combat conditions.
Earlier in the month, the spokesman of the IRGC Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif hailed Iran’s deterrence power, saying world powers do not dare act against the Islamic Republic in light of country's defense and military power.
Iran’s Armed Forces regularly hold military maneuvers to elevate their preparedness and military prowess and to carry a message of warning to enemies against any belligerent act engendering the Islamic Republic.
At the same time, Iran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military power poses no threat to them, saying that the Islamic Republic’s military capabilities are defensive in nature.
