Congress support for MKO shows 'deep bonds' between US, terrorism: Iran

Iranian Foreign Ministry has denounced a recently-introduced US Congress resolution that supports the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorist organization, noting that the measure demonstrates deep ties between Washington and terrorism.

"Support of 165 US lawmakers for MKO proves deep bonds between #US and #terrorism," Spokesman Nasser Kan'ani wrote in a post on his Twitter account on Friday.

"No strange!" he noted, adding, "The regime that founded #Daesh & used it as tool, not ashamed of supporting and instrumental using of murderers of 17k Iranians."

The bipartisan resolution was introduced to the House by Congressman Tom McClintock on February 7 and has 164 other cosponsors. It has been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Backing foreign-backed riots in Iran, the resolution expresses support for what it calls the "Iranian people’s desire for a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran." It also levels baseless accusations against Iran for what it describes as "state-sponsored terrorism" and violation of human rights.

The leader of the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) Maryam Rajavi also addressed a press briefing planned for the introduction of the resolution on Wednesday, lauding the representatives' efforts.

This is not the first anti-Iranian resolution in the US House of Representatives. Back on January 25, American lawmakers adopted a resolution praising rioters in Iran and calling for more sanctions against Iranian officials.

It also encouraged the administration of US President Joe Biden “to immediately impose, under existing authorities, additional human rights sanctions on officials and entities responsible for the repression of the current protests.”

Iran blasts US Congress' resolution backing recent riots, says Americans ‘never’ want to accept realities

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has lambasted a US Congress’ resolution supporting the recent Western-instigated riots in Iran.

Riots broke out in Iran in mid-September after the death of Amini. The 22-year-old fainted at a police station in Tehran and was pronounced dead three days later in hospital. An official report by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization concluded that Amini’s death was caused by illness rather than alleged blows to the head or other vital body organs.

Iran’s intelligence community has said several countries, including the United States and Britain, have used their spy and propaganda apparatuses to provoke violent riots in the country.

Rioters went on a rampage, brutally attacking security officers and causing massive damage to public property. Dozens of people and security personnel were killed in the riots. 

Meanwhile, security forces arrested and dismantled several terrorist teams linked to Daesh and MKO in recent months.

Iran’s intelligence forces bust several MKO-linked terrorist cells in Tehran, Esfahan, Kordestan

Iran’s intelligence forces have identified and dismantled several operative cells affiliated with the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorist group in the provinces of Tehran, Esfahan and Kordestan.

The MKO terrorist group is responsible for causing the largest part of the 17,000-plus fatalities that have resulted from acts of terror since the 1979 victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution.

In 1986, Iran asked France to expel the group from its base in Paris, following which it moved its base to Iraq.

The group's members spent many years in Iraq, where they were hosted and armed by the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. They sided with Saddam during the 1980-88 war against Iran and then helped him quell uprisings in various parts of the Arab country.

Albania started hosting the terrorists after the cult was shunned by the government of former Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki.

The European country is estimated to have been accommodating some 3,000 members of the terror cult since 2016.
