Tens of thousands of households in France have suffered power outage after storm Gerard swept across large parts of the European country, power grid company Enedis says.
In a statement on Monday, Enedis, a unit of French state-controlled utility EDF, said at least 75,000 of its customers were left without electricity as a result of storm Gerard, which mostly hit western parts of France.
France has placed over 20 departments in its west and north and around Paris on an 'orange' alert, the second-highest warning, for high winds, heavy rain and possible flooding due to the storm, whose gusts whipped the country with the speed of almost 160 kilometers per hour.
According to state forecaster Meteo France, the southern departments of Cantal and Lozere are not expected to be hit by the storm, but are on alert for heavy snowfall. It described this morning’s weather as “very disturbed” as the storm passed from west to east, accompanied by strong winds.
