UNHRC ‘biased, selective’ approach towards Iran will fail: Rights activist  

The United Nations Human Rights Council's (UNHRC) ‘biased and selective’ approach towards Iran will fail as it has in the past, a human rights activist has said.

Firas al-Najim, Manager of the NGO Canadian Defenders for Human Rights, made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Monday, reacting to a recent UNHRC resolution against Iran adopted based on allegations of human rights violations during the recent foreign-backed riots in the country. 

Following the adoption of the anti-Iran resolution, engineered by Germany, the body established a so-called fact-finding mission to probe claims of human rights abuses during the riots. Tehran has said that it will not cooperate with the mission.

“The [UN] body is dominated by certain powers, and they are pushing an agenda forward and the good thing is that Iran is resisting and exposing this body and showing that it is not truly working for human rights,” Najim said.

“And if it really did work for human rights, then they would punish the German regime,” he added, alluding to Germany's support for ex-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the 1980-1988 imposed war on Iran and supply of chemical warfare by Berlin to the Ba’ath regime. 

Therefore, he said, the UN body has a “biased and selective” approach towards Iran, and hopefully it is going to fail “because they have always failed with the Islamic Republic of Iran and its wise leadership.”

‘UN unhumanitarian style’

 Sanctions against Iran have put the lives of vulnerable people at risk by hampering their access to medicine, what Najim described as “UN unhumanitarian style”, which does not care about people that are suffering inside Iran as long as their agenda and their strategy is working.

He explained that Western powers plan to “hurt the Iranian nation” and to make them “angry with the government” so that people will “rise up against the government” and they can instigate riots and infiltrate the country and that is exactly what they are doing in Iran now.

“[the UN and the Western powers] do not actually care about the human rights or the nations sovereignty, liberty or justice but they care about their own interest which is to control the region, and to support the Israeli regime that is the base that supports their control over the region,” he noted.

Iran has been at the forefront of fighting these powers to control the region and supported oppressed Palestinian people to liberate their land from these usurpers, war criminals, and mercenaries, he added.

He further urged Iran to bring the evidence in front of the world and to the attention of the media and expose these regimes and media outlets, and also lodge complaints at the United Nations to punish and penalize the “manipulation and defamation project” against Iran. 

He concluded that the West needs to respect other people's laws, understand that not everybody has to follow their laws, and their standards of morals, and start to learn more about the Islamic Republic of Iran's laws.

Iran rules out cooperation with ‘politicized’ UN Human Right Council’s fact-finding mission

The spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry says Tehran won’t cooperate at all with the so-called fact-finding mission created following a UN Human Rights Council resolution against the country.

The recent UN anti-Iran resolution comes as foreign-backed riots have hit some Iranian provinces since 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini died at the hospital on September 16, three days after she collapsed at a police station.

An investigation has attributed Amini’s death to her medical condition, rather than alleged beatings by the police.

The riots, meanwhile, have claimed the lives of dozens of people and security forces, while also allowing terrorist attacks across the country. In the last two months, the terrorists have set fire to public property and tortured several Basij members and security forces to death.
