US Election Day ends with no clear winner, again

The United States midterm elections began with many reminding that the party of the sitting president almost always loses seats in Congress.

With inflation at a record high, economic instability the worst in decades and the unrest in Ukraine quickly becoming America’s latest “forever war”, early polling had many expecting a Republican “red wave.”

The campaign was marked by each side accusing the other of being extremists. Republicans portrayed Democrats as cultural and economic radicals, whereas Democrats insisted that Republicans were intent on destroying American democracy. The mutual fear mongering has led to 9 out of 10 Americans saying that they now fear politically-related violence.

At the end of Election Day which party will rule Congress was still in doubt, as an easy Republican victory was not apparent. The United States continues to have prolonged difficulties with counting votes, a major cause of the widespread doubt regarding the integrity of their electoral system.

It may take days or possibly weeks to decide the final outcome, meaning that the United States is having another incredibly unstable election, with tension and division seemingly certain to increase.

Candidates on both sides have threatened to refuse to recognize the vote results if they aren’t the winner, meaning that America’s “Election Day” may drag into “Election Month”, once again.
