RNC chair says Republicans will take control of the House and Senate after midterm elections on Tuesday

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel believes Republicans will take control of the US House of Representatives and Senate after next week’s midterm elections.

The US is holding midterm elections on Tuesday that will decide control of the House and Senate, along with crucial governor races across the country, which will shape the rest of Democratic Joe Biden’s term.

Republicans contend that Democrats have also engaged in political violence. They have condemned Democrats for failing to keep their focus on inflation and crime, two of voters' principal concerns, according to most opinion polls.

Biden has warned the Republican Party could set the nation on "the path to chaos". He called on Americans to unite in opposition to "political violence" in the elections.

McDaniel on Sunday suggested Republican candidates will ultimately accept the results of the midterm elections.

“When the process is played out and the votes are canvassed and certified — every one of your Republican candidates will accept their results, even if they lose?” co-anchor Dana Bash asked McDaniel on CNN.

“They will,” McDaniel responded.

Bash earlier played a clip of Senator Ron Johnson (Wis.) responding to a reporter who asked the vulnerable incumbent senator if he would concede if the tabulations show he lost.

“I sure hope I can, but I can’t predict what the Democrats might have planned,” Johnson responded.

Arizona Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake has said she might not accept the election results on several occasions.

“You should have a recount,” McDaniel told Bash on Sunday. “You should have a canvass, and it’ll go to the courts, and then everybody should accept the results. That’s what it should be. But I’m also not going to say if there’s problems that we shouldn’t be able to address that.”

McDaniel slammed Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams for refusing to concede following her 2018 loss to Gov. Brian Kemp. Both are competing again in a rematch on Tuesday.

“I think Ron Johnson and Stacey Abrams in the end, once all their avenues are exhausted, they’ll accept the results,” McDaniel told Bash.

A report published last month on inflation showed prices in the US are rising more than expected.

The report marks potential bad news for Biden and Democrats who are desperate to retain control of Congress and must try to convince voters deeply concerned about high prices that they can help drive inflation down.

Biden said in his statement on Friday that inflation is the top economic challenge and that he has a plan to bring down prices by lowering healthcare costs and energy costs.

“Here’s what the Democrats are: they’re inflation deniers, they are crime deniers, they’re education deniers,” McDaniel said on CNN. “This is not what the American people are talking about.”

Shortly before their midterm legislative elections, a stunning new poll shows that 9 out of 10 Americans are afraid of politically-motivated violence.

The blame is apportioned in almost equal thirds. Democrats blame Republicans, Republican respondents hold Democrats responsible and another third says both parties are equally responsible.
