More than 80 districts in Kherson, where Ukrainian forces have been advancing in recent weeks, are now liberated, Ukraine’s presidential office says.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the office’s deputy, said on social media on Friday that 88 districts of southern Kherson had been liberated. Last week, Kiev announced that 75 towns and villages in the region had been liberated.
Russian officials had previously said they would turn Kherson into a "fortress" by building city defenses.
Meanwhile, Russia's Investigative Committee announced on Friday that two journalists were among four people killed in a nighttime attack by Ukrainian forces on a bridge in the Russian-controlled part of Kherson.
The committee said it has information about the two journalists. It said "children and representatives of the media" are among the dead and wounded.
Alexander Malkevich, the deputy of Russia's intelligence development commission, said earlier that a journalist had been killed in the attack.
Russian officials based in the southern region of Kherson said Ukraine’s military forces on Thursday shelled the Antonivskiy Bridge over the Dnieper River, which was used to evacuate people.
Kirill Stremousov, a pro-Moscow official, said four people were killed.
And, Nataliya Gumenyuk, the spokeswoman of the Ukrainian army, denied killing civilians and said Ukrainian forces do not attack critical infrastructure and local people.
Pro-Russia forces asked civilians to cross the left bank of the river. Ukraine, however, labeled the move as Moscow's expulsion of Ukrainian citizens.
