Analyst: Greasing up America's next victim may spark a nuclear reaction

An American journalist and political commentator said the United States is greasing a path towards nuclear war with Russia.

US President Joe Biden said on Thursday that the risk of nuclear “Armageddon” is at the highest level since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis after Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to use the country’s nuclear weapons in face of the Western nuclear aggression.

“This is not a bluff,” Putin said last month. “And those who try to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the weathervane can turn and point towards them.”

Biden on Thursday said Putin was “a guy I know fairly well” and the Russian leader was “not joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons.”

“We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis,” Biden added. He suggested the threat from Putin is real “because his military is — you might say — significantly underperforming.”

New York-based radio host Don DeBar said in an interview with Press TV Friday that “this is highly disingenuous.”

“Russia is not about to collapse in Ukraine, whatsoever. The US is trying to create a narrative, based on a couple of tactical retreats, that scares the life out of me, because it sounds like they intend to set off a small nuclear device in Ukraine, blame it on Moscow and use it as an excuse to make complete war on Russia,” he stated.

DeBar added, “The first movie ever made by the actor Peter Sellers was based on the prevailing fallacy at the time that the best thing that could happen to a country was to be defeated by the US in a war and then collect the foreign aid to rebuild in the aftermath. That movie was called ‘The Mouse That Roared’.”

“The fact of the matter is that the money flows to places where weapons purchases, death squads, drugs and money laundering prevail. There are the contras in Nicaragua, the decades long poppy and pipeline war in Afghanistan, the drug and death squad war in Columbia and, of course, the current war in Ukraine. If a country has vast oil reserves, sooner or later the US military is on the job securing it for America's oil corporations. But it takes more than oil to grease the wheels of the economy owned by Western oligarchs. Guns drugs and dirty money provide that additional lubrication,” he continued.  

“The problem today is that trying this formula on a nuclear power - Russia - may well spark a response that no one expected, and no one wanted,” he concluded.

US President Joe Biden warns of the risk of "Armageddon" as the Ukrainian president calls for "preventive" strikes against Russia.

Last month, Biden warned Putin against thoughts of using nuclear weapons in Ukraine, adding that it would “change the face of war unlike anything since WWII.”

Biden said Moscow would become a global pariah if it uses weapons of mass destruction on the former Soviet state.

In response to Biden's warning, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov gave reporters this short answer, "Read the doctrine. Everything is written there," RIA Novosti reported.

The Russian nuclear doctrine allows the country to use nukes under two conditions. First, when "Russia  or its ally [is under attack] with the use of mass destruction weapons," and second, "when the very existence of the state is under threat."
