Firefighting helicopters battled wildfires in Albacete, central Spain, on Tuesday amid brutal summer temperatures.
Footage filmed by eyewitness Javier Valdelvira showed a huge plume of smoke over the municipality of Riopar.
A local official, Jose Luis Escudero, posted an update on Twitter late on Tuesday saying the fires were being quickly contained.
Climate change had left parts of the Iberian peninsula at their driest in 1,200 years, according to a study published last month in the Nature Geoscience journal. Spain had suffered three unusually long heatwaves this summer that stoked devastating wildfires.
