“US must leave Syria”
Iran's president says American forces must leave Syria and the entire region, adding this is the most fundamental solution to the current crises in West Asia. Ebrahim Raeisi made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad. He said the Syrian army must regain control over all the country’s borders, and Syria’s national sovereignty must be respected. Raeisi added that inattention to these issues will give rise to various threats. He added that Syria’s future outlook is bright as a result of the Syrian nation’s patience and resistance. Mekdad’s visit followed a summit of Iranian Russian and Turkish presidents in Tehran to discuss the situation in Syria within framework of the Astana Process. The three countries’ presidents stressed respect for Syria’s sovereignty and integrity while calling for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from the country.
Iran recalls envoy to Sweden
Iran has recalled its ambassador to Sweden for consultation in protest at a Swedish court’s life sentence for an Iranian citizen. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman made the announcement, saying the verdict against Hamid Nouri is based on unfounded, distorted and fabricated accusations. Nouri’s ruling was handed down by the Stockholm District Court over alleged rights abuses. Iran has rejected the verdict, calling on Swedish officials to immediately free its national. On Tuesday, a group of Iranian protesters gathered outside the Swedish embassy in Tehran to protest the ruling.
Russia oil warning
Russia has warned that it will stop supplying crude oil to global markets if a price cap is imposed on it the announcement was made by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. He was reacting to a US plan for imposing a crude price cap to make it harder for Moscow to sell oil and fund its military campaign in Ukraine. Novak said if oil prices are lower than the cost of its production, then Russia will not ensure oil supply to world markets. Russian President Vladimir Putin had told reporters earlier that oil prices would skyrocket if a price cap were imposed. Europe has been experiencing record-breaking inflation rates and rising fuel prices in the wake of sanctions against Russian energy imports. Moscow says the E-U is about to go through a looming energy crisis due to its own bans against Russia’s crude production. The Kremlin says the situation could create catastrophic consequences in the global market.
