Following intense UN-supervised meetings between the warring sides in Yemen, the UN envoy for Yemen announced that the parties have agreed to renew the current truce in Yemen for two more months.

The truce is extended under the same terms as the original agreement, which first came into effect on the 2nd of April. Observers say renewing the truce is a win for the Yemenis who stood alone during seven years of war without any support from the international community or the United Nations.

Grundberg said he will continue engaging with the parties to implement and consolidate all elements of the truce. People here hope that renewing the UN-brokered truce will build a comprehensive political solution to end the war that devastated their lives and country. They say the international community should now step in properly to support the political process in Yemen.
