Premier League: Man City trounce Newcastle United to open up three-point lead

Manchester City has returned to the top of the Premier League after easing to a 5-0 win over Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium.

The hosts, looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s Champions League exit to Real Madrid, dominated throughout, and were 2-0 up by half-time, thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Aymeric Laporte.

Rodri’s thumping header on a Kevin De Bruyne delivery, made it 3-nil, right after the hour-mark.

Newcastle could do nothing about City's 4th, as substitute Phil Foden swept home from close range.

The magpies were cut to shreds once again in injury time, with Sterling slotting home a fifth, as Pep Guardiola’s side, not only boosted their goal difference but are now 3 points clear of Liverpool in the first place.

Newcastle remains 13th.
