Iran’s free style wrestling team have been crowned the 2022 Asian Champions, after collecting a total of six gold, one silver and one bronze medals in Mongolia.
Team Iran who had already bagged 3 gold medals on Saturday, made a headway through Younes Emami who controlled the 74 kg final against defending champion Nurkozha Kaipanov of Kazakhstan to win 5-2 and claim his first Asian Championships.
Then in the 92kg final 20-year old Amirhossein Firouz-pour dismantled an opponent from the home country by technical superiority to grab another precious gold.
And in the 125kg class, Yadollah Mohebi put on a clutch performance to outmuscle Asian Champion, Alisher Yergali of Kazakhstan 3-1 and win the heavyweight title.
Meanwhile, Darioush Hazrat Gholizadeh lost his 61 kg final to Rey Higuchi of Japan and settled for silver while Mohsen Mostafavi earned a bronze medal in the 86 kg class. Now with a staggering tally of 6 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze, Pejman Dorostkar’s men claimed the title on 201 points with India and Kazakhstan finishing second and third respectively way behind Iran.
