Palestinians rallied in the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday to mark the 48th anniversary of Palestinian Prisoner’s Day.

Palestinian Prisoner’s Day commemorates the first Palestinian prisoner exchange deal with Tel-Aviv in 1974.

Statistics show that Israeli forces have arrested nearly one million Palestinians since 1967.

Israel currently holds around five thousand Palestinians in its prisons and detention centers, including women and minors.

Palestinian protesters shouted slogans against Israel and expressed their unwavering support for the prisoners.

Palestinian prisoners have gone on hunger strike several times in recent years to draw attention to their plight. Activists called on Palestinian groups to capture more Israeli soldiers in order to swap them with Palestinian prisoners.

According to prisoners’ advocacy groups, Palestinian prisoners continue to face a wide range of human rights violations in Israeli jails and detention centers.

As they mark Palestinian Prisoner Day, people here accuse the international community of turning a blind eye to the continued Israeli crimes against thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
