NBA: Hawks beat Cavaliers 107-101, reach playoffs

A look at the NBA play in event, the visiting Atlanta Hawks have overcome the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-101 to secure their place in the post-season.

Trailing by 10 points at half time, Atlanta got back to life in the 3rd outscoring the Cavaliers 33-23 to tie it at 84 apiece heading into the final period. The Hawks then scored 23 in the 4th while holding Cleveland to 17 to earn the number 8 seed in the eastern conference.

The Hawks were led to victory thanks to All-Star guard Trae Young who had a game-high 38 points. They will face the top-seeded Heat in the first round of the playoffs in Miami on Sunday.

The New Orleans Pelicans also secured their spot in the NBA playoffs following a hard-fought 105-101 victory over the Clippers in Los Angeles.

The Pelicans who were looking for a first playoff berth since 2018 set off in the right track, building a 30-22 edge after a quarter of play and pushed the gap to 10 points at the break. But Los Angeles charged back in the third quarter to overturn the deficit into a 10-point lead only to see New Orleans produce a successful rally in the final stanza and earn the 8th seed in the Western Conference. the Pelicans will face the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in the first round.
