Poland's Hubert Hurkacz has kept his title defense going at the Miami Open with a straight sets victory over Daniil Medvedev.
In a tight quarter-final battle, Hurkacz delivered an intense play against Medvedev as he clubbed his ground strokes and finished points at the net to triumph 7-6, 6-3 in two hours and two minutes. The win saw Hurkacz levelling his head to head meetings with the Medvedev at 2-2, while bringing the Russian’s World No. 1 bid to an end. Medvedev needed to reach the semi-finals to retake the world number one spot from Novak Djokovic. He claimed the position briefly earlier this year but lost it after a shock third-round loss at the Indian Wells Masters.
