An American political analyst says Iran can generate more jobs for its people and enhance its competitive position in the global market by focusing on a “sanctions-proof economy”.
Kevin Barrett, an American author, journalist, and radio host, in an interview with Press TV, did not rule out the possibility of Americans tearing up the 2015 nuclear deal again, despite marathon efforts underway in Vienna to salvage the accord that the US abandoned in 2018.
“The Leader is right,” Barrett said, referring to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s recent speech. “Why should Iranian leaders believe that the US won’t tear up the JCPOA again whenever the political or strategic situation dictates?”
Describing what he called “a sanctions-proof economy” as a “stronger economy”, the US-based analyst said by focusing on domestic production and bringing down reliance on imports, Iran can generate employment for its people and enhance its competitive position in the world market, which he said was “increasingly moving out of dollar trade and the US-controlled SWIFT system.”
“The motto expresses the Leader’s intention to inspire Iranians to increase domestic production and continue to diminish reliance on imports,” Barrett stressed.
“The resistance economy focusing on domestic production has succeeded in preserving Iran’s sovereignty. The Leader’s emphasis on the development of knowledge refers to the need for STEM education to produce the scientists and engineers necessary to increasing domestic production and the jobs that accompany it,” he hastened to add.
He said the Leader of the Islamic Revolution had referred to “the rise of China as an independent power capable of challenging US hegemony, and now Russia’s direct challenge to American unipolar hegemony in Ukraine.”
“US sanctions on Russia, and threats of expanding sanctions on China and other countries that refuse to join the US war on Russia, will force more and more of the world out of the SWIFT system, which means Iran will benefit from its head start in achieving genuine independence,” Barrett noted.
Pointing to the Republican opposition to the nuclear deal and the likelihood of Republicans returning to power in the US Congress this fall and the White House in 2024, he said there was “nothing” that could stop them from doing what Trump did in May 2018 – breaching the contract.
“The US, as Russian President (Vladimir) Putin famously said, rules the “empire of lies” and is a “non-agreement-capable”,” Barrett said, adding that “nothing the Americans say or sign can ever be trusted”.
“The solemn US pledge not to expand NATO even one inch eastward was broken shortly after it was made. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) prohibitions did not stop the US from developing COVID-19 and then unleashing it, most likely in a biological attack targeting the economies of China and Iran. These and other examples of American perfidy show that Iran must be prepared for the consequences if the US once again decides to tear up the deal it signed,” he further added.
