US, South Korea rattling sabres as N Korea tests missile

The US this week conducted aircraft carrier exercises in the Yellow Sea. This comes as South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol met the acting US Ambassador to South Korea, and confirmed his wish to strengthen the US-South Korea alliance.
The US drills coincide with indications North Korea may conduct another long-range ICBM test. South Korean officials say Pyongyang conducted a failed missile test Wednesday. South Korea’s President-elect Yoon has said he would deal harshly with the North’s so-called provocations, worrying activists in Seoul.
President-elect Yoon has pledged to deploy more anti-ballistic missiles and pre-emptive so-called “Kill chain” missile strike forces.
South Korea’s president elect Yoon Suk-yeol has made clear his plans to increase the country’s military capabilities. And those intentions have already been seen with increased activity within the US-South Korea alliance, indicating a seismic shift in strategy for dealing with North Korea.
South Korean state Yonhap news this week also suggested the US may resume strategic bomber exercises over South Korea.
