Saudi Arabia says it has killed 81 people on a single day, setting its own record for the most people killed over 24-hours.

But why would Saudi Arabia decide execute so many people in one day, especially before Islam’s holy month of Ramadan, knowing the controversy and uproar it would cause? The move has been met with condemnation, with the UN suggesting that it may amount to a war crime.
